My favorite thing about Fall, besides the beauitful colors of the leaves falling, is to start cooking more savory foods for the festive winter ahead. It just seems more natural to cook hearty nibbles when we can wrap up in layers and not when we are working towards that bikini body for summer. My Cheesy Bacon Twists are great for the festive season with all those drop in visitors and family coming for Christmas time. What about all those parties that need great finger nibbles and all those guests visiting would love to be greeted with these and a hot cuppa or even a brandy – tis the season!
Pre-Make Cheesy Bacon Pastry Twists And Freeze For Later
They are super simple to make, if I can do it so can you. What I love most about these is you can actually make them all up on a tray and put them in the freezer to bake at a later date. After they are frozen just remove from your tray and put them in a freezer lock bag. Nothing better than getting that phone call someone is coming over for a drop in visit and popping a dozen of these in the oven straight from the freezer. Cooking time will need to be extended slightly as they are frozen. You will be filling your house full of rosemary and brown sugar aromas and not having to do any prep work. Win for you-win for your guests.

- 1/2cupsoftbrown sugar
- 1Tbspfinely chopped fresh rosemary

Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C)
Use a deep pan, lined with foil, and a wire rack insert on top
Grease wire rack well with cooking spray
In a pie dish, mix brown sugar, rosemary, salt and pepper -set aside
On a cutting board, place your three puff pastry sheets down. I bought pre-made fresh puff pastry that came in little 5x6ish squares.
Beat your egg in a little saucer and with a brush, coat the top of your three puff pastry sheets
Sprinkle your grated cheese of choice, on top and lightly press your cheese into the puff pastry with your hand. (not too hard, just enough to stick)
Using a pizza cutter, cut 1/2 inch strips
Cut your streaky bacon down the middle with scissors
Lay one strip of bacon on top of one strip of your cheesy puff pastry, twist gently
Roll your twist in your brown sugar coating, make sure it’s completely covered
Set on top of wire rack inside your pan
Repeat until all twists are coated
Bake for 20-30 minutes (oven times vary, make sure it doesn’t burn)
Perfect Snacks For Kids And Grown Ups
The kids love these too, so it’s really a hit with the whole family. Even though Mr P isn’t a fan of cheese he really liked these. I used a mixture of grated pizza cheeses but you can use whatever cheese you like. If you prefer a more peppery taste, use peppered bacon instead of regular or even smoked for a stronger adult suitable taste. These are great for buffets, party hors d’oeuvres or just an afternoon snack on the weekend.
More Party Food Ideas
If you’re having a party – whether it’s just for the family or with friends – then you need some great snacks. Of course you should make the cheesy bacon twists, but I have lots of other recipes for you to try.
Savoury Snacks
Ham and cheese nibbles are always a big hit in this house, for both kids and adults. You can tweak the recipe to make them exactly how you like. Baba Ganoush with lots of vegetable sticks, crisps and flatbreads for dipping alongside Samphire Broccoli Galettes for the grown ups.
Simple Buffet Desserts
Crunchie chocolate meringue nests make the perfect individual desserts for a buffet. Team it with some simple cake options like pumpkin brownies, fruit puff pastry tarts and lemon meringue cupcakes. A Cadbury Crunchie Cake With A Twirl make a fab centre piece if you want something with a bit of a wow factor on your dessert table. A plate of homemade fudge on the side for when you’re having coffees always goes down well too.
Party co*cktails
I love to make a party feel a little fancier with some easy homemade co*cktails. None of the drinks I make take long to put together, so I’m not wasting time fixing drinks when I could be hanging out and enjoying time with my guests. At this time of year the chocolate pumpkin spice martini really gets everyone in the festive mood, and I love a glass of my fizzy lemon co*cktail. In the summer I often serve up my gin lemonade and basil co*cktail, or a rhubarb gin with summer fruits.
