🇸🇬 Celebrating Singapore’s 59th National Day! 🇸🇬On the eve of our nation’s 59th National Day, I had the privilege of addressing the learners, leaders, and scholars of Zhonghua Secondary School. Standing before them, I shared insights on Total Defence—a topic close to my heart.When asked, “What makes you proud to be Singaporean?” their answers were diverse, heartwarming, and funny: our passport, our robust economy, our rich cultural tapestry, and our mouthwatering food scene (Hokkien Mee!). But the underlying theme was crystal clear—we are all immensely proud of our nation’s achievements, despite the odds we faced 59 years ago and continue to overcome today.During my talk, I recounted my operational experiences and highlighted how the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) contributes to Total Defence through humanitarian missions and peace support operations. But it’s not just about military strength; it’s about the everyday actions that matter. Being Zestful, Humble, in Service to the greater good, and with great Synergy—these qualities define us. They align with Zhonghua Secondary School’s values of Resilience, Integrity, Care, and Excellence! “What will you defend?” I posed this question at the end of the talk, driving home the message that we must be clear on protecting what we have built over the last 59 years, emphasizing that each of us plays a vital role across all pillars of Total Defence. It’s about unity, adaptability, and rising to any occasion; Together, As One United People.As I reflect on this opportunity, I am profoundly thankful.
