The Best Boomerville Hotel by Caroline James is a 2018 Ruby Fiction publication.

The cover of this book is adorable, and so is this story! As a woman of ‘a certain age’, I love seeing more stories centered around ‘mature’ characters. The guests and staff get involved in a few crazy antics, which are laugh out loud funny. But, there is also a dollop of suspense, and a whole lot of romantic intrigue.

Sometimes I get lucky and choose a book at just the right moment in time. With so much going on right now, the news is scary and so heartbreaking, turning to books is always a comfort. But, I’m wondering the Shaman in this story was working a little magic for me, as this story struck just the right chord, at just the right time. It was exactly the soothing balm my broken heart needed.

This is just a wonderfully warm and funny feel good story, laced with everything you want in a story. The characters are eclectic, a bit eccentric and quirky, each with a special backstory that brings them to life in a big way.

The pacing is brisk without compromising the development of the characters or the plot, but more importantly, it will leave you feeling like no matter what your age, it’s never too late to start over, to find love, or live life to its fullest. By the time I turned that last page, my spirits were lifted, and my mood was much lighter. What more could you ask for?

Good friends Jo and Hattie decided to open up a retreat for “people of a certain age.“ The purpose of the retreat is too offer classes to expand both the mind and the body of the boomers... I thought this was a fun refreshing book focusing on people over 50... a Book all about embracing every day no matter what your age....

This book had a cast of extremely engaging, eccentric and quirky, characters.... Kate a successful Business owner of a online dating service who has never found love herself... Andy a handsome James bond look alike with a hidden agenda... lucinda a washed up artist with a dirty side.... and last but not least eccentric yet lovable brothers Harry and Hugo... each character brought a little something different to the table and added some charm and wit to the story....

It is always nice to read a delightful uplifting story that will make you smile and giggle... a book that reinforces the fact that it is never too late for second chances, new beginnings, and true love....

Absolutely recommend when you are in the mood for a lovely story a bit of a pick me up...

First of all I want to mention how much I adore the cover. It's so much fun and definitely eye catching. Drew me to it straight away.

The Best Boomerville Hotel is a heartwarming, laugh out loud, fun and Frolics, passionate, full of quirky characters and was a gem to read.

Boomerville Hotel is a Hotel for the over 50's to come and stay meet new people, relax, experience something new such as cooking classes, creative writing classes, spiritual readings and life classes with a shaman.

Ok I might be in my 30s but I would sign up in a heartbeat.

The characters are an eclectic mix and I loved that they kept it interesting.

Owners best friends Jo and Hattie. Hattie is more easy going and loves life. Where as Jo takes life a lil more seriously. She has a partner Pete who bought her Bunty the adorable chocolate Lab pup.

There is Sir Henry a long term guest. He is eccentric, cheeky, writes risque novels, an outrageous flirt a bit of a loveable rogue.

Kate the newest guest. She has had a tough time recently and I really felt for her. After losing her mum, then nursing her father who had Altzimers, who also passed away. Kate is looking to find herself again. It's time to meet new people and maybe find love.

In walks the very handsome, rich and charming Andrew Mack.
He is a widower looking to start a new life.
He makes a very very good impression on the ladies. One in particular!!

Kate is besotted. She's never met someone so confident and handsome and he makes her giddy.
Andrew makes her tingle in places she forgot existed!

Will Kate get her happy ever after or will it just be a Boomerville Fling!!
You will just have to read it to find out.

I adore Caroline's books. But I think this one is one of my favourites.
I adored the Characters in this story.
Each one I would love to meet in real life.

Once I started reading The Boomerville Hotel I knew I was going to get lost in it.
I was right, before I knew it the time whizzed by and it was 6am lol

My Review:

Being a boomer myself, I found this amusing and smirk-worthy tale a delight to read. I want to book a stay there for myself. This was my first experience reading Ms. James’ clever and entertaining words and she didn’t miss a trick. Her well-crafted and engaging storylines were laced with levity, insightful observations, and an oddly compelling and quirky cast of characters. I adored them all but found dear Hattie to be what my Gran would call “a caution.” Slyly nestled among the antics, this talented scribe has provided a easy to follow and enjoyable mixture of humor and intrigue with a mysterious and powerful (yet creepy) shaman, an accurate fortune-telling gypsy, blackmail, embezzlement, a slick and conniving gigolo, feisty seniors, a precious pup, several new romances, and a raging stormy night without power for the culmination of the plot. I could never get enough of this unconventional yet uncommonly endearing group and currently yearn for a bit more. And score, I unearthed a new addition for my Brit Word List with punters - which the Urban Dictionary has informed me is British slang for a gambler or someone making a risky investment, as well as a customer or client. I am getting smarter by the day!

Jo and Hattie had worked together for years at the once Kirkton House, alongside Jo’s husband. When he died the house stood empty for a year until inspiration sprung and the pair set to work to re-open the place now called ‘Boomerville Hotel’.

Boomerville is a hotel for those over a certain age to stay and have a relaxing time, with plenty of courses on offer, including pottery and creative writing, delicious food produced by a Michelin Star chef and a never-ending bar. This is the place to be.

The guests are a real mix. Including elderly brothers Henry and Hugo, who both have money to burn. Kate, a woman who has never found love and is wondering if she ever will. Andrew the dark-haired, suarve, sophisticated James Bond look-a-like. Plus Artist Lucinda which nothing is ever good enough for her.

This book has been on my radar for a while and I knew from the moment I saw it that I wanted to read it. It was exciting to read a book that didn’t feature twenty-somethings and was all about those over fifty. The plot was just perfect and the setting, The Lake District, was ideal for the hotel.

The book progresses at a steady pace and has plenty of secondary stories intermingling with the main one. There were times when this book felt so heart-warming and I genuinely cared about both the staff and guests. At other times I was laughing out loud at some of the antics that mainly the guests got up to. Plus there is also the resident dog to coo over.

The book is wonderfully uplifting and I didn’t realise how quickly I was getting through the story until I reached the end in just two sittings.

I've read a few romance novels recently where my complaint has been as an (almost) 46 year old woman I just can't relate to the twenty-somethings in a lot of the stories. So thank heavens for The Best Boomerville Hotel. Baby boomers are approximately 50-69 years old so I've far more in common with them which really helped me relate to the characters in this book.

I've done starting again, I've spent time going out of my comfort zone. The idea of a few weeks retreat in a hotel writing, painting and doing other activities sounds just perfect and I just found it so easy to immerse myself in this book and enjoy it. Finally a book written that suits my tastes almost exactly.

The characters are so rich and easy to relate to. The book flows well and I really enjoyed it.

Having previously read Jungle Rock I was intrigued to see how a full length novel would be from Caroline and I was not disappointed. The book follows Jo and Hattie as they open up the Boomerville Hotel to people of a certain age - also known as the baby boomers (hence the name) and it follows the funny adventures of their guests.

It was a brilliantly easy book to read and I can't wait to erad more of Caroline's now.

The Best Boomerville Hotel has a fresh, uplifting cover that produces a smile as soon as you spot it. I’ve enjoyed Caroline’s books immensely in the past so I was happy to dive in to see what fun and games she has created this time.

The aforementioned hotel has been designed with a certain clientele in mind .. it’s set in the Lake District so highly unlikely it will attract the 18-30 mob who crave sunshine, but elegant and distinguished guests of an older generation are welcome. I wonder how you know if you have hit this special golden era or maybe if you remain young at heart with a slice of the naughty thrown in you qualify?

Anyway, the guests arrive true to form all with their own quirks, some we have met before if you are a fan of this author, so it’s always a nice surprise to meet up again. Follow this band of merry revellers as they join in activity courses, enjoy luscious meals, add in a touch of unexpected romance and prepare to laugh at some of the intentions and consequences. For some reason as I’m reading my mind reverts back to another hotel … this could easily compete with Fawlty Tower’s in it’s hey day!

For all fans of rom-com this will be loved, if you haven’t yet dipped your toe into this genre who better than Caroline James to tempt you.

It has been absolutely ages since I was last fortunate enough to be able to read a new Caroline James. Was it worth the wait though? Yes 100% definitely this was fantastic, just a shame I now have to wait for the author to write another!

All of this authors books are standalone and this is no exception but at the same time fans will recognise assorted characters from previous books, and I was delighted that we had more of Hattie and Jo's story.

The Boomerville Hotel is set in the Lake District and is a hotel with huge grounds that has been opened up to give the Baby Boomer generation a new lease of life, with all manner of creative courses, some more normal than others!

Over the course of the story we hear a lot about the various course, but not only that their tutors and all the guests at the hotel. And what a varied bunch they are. Where else but in fiction would you find such an eclectic mix of clientele - from a modern day looking James Bond, the titled eccentric brothers Sir Henry and Hugo, a down on her luck artist and Kate who is the other main character in the book.

I absolutely loved hearing the antics of all of these characters, and when the tutors include a Shaman who seems to have rather impressive mystical qualities you know you are in for a book that is incredibly entertaining.

There are so many funny moments that I wouldn't want to spoil them for you. It is always nice to read a book full of characters that are older than me, as it gives me great hope that my life could become a lot more exciting as I age disgracefully!

There is certainly romance occurring all over the Boomerville Hotel, but I challenge you to at the start correctly predict the pairings that may occur - I would hazard a guess that you will be wrong about most of them. This really is one of those expect the unexpected sort of books, which makes it all the more entertaining.

Absolutely adored this latest book from the author, and already want to read the next book by her, which probably hasn't been written yet!

Welcome back to Jo and Hattie and their fabulous new business venture, the Best Boomerville Hotel! I’ve enjoyed the mid life adventures of this pair of friends so far and so was really looking forward to meeting up with them again.

There’s certainly a nod to the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel here maybe with a touch of Kellermans from Dirty Dancing thrown in there too. The somewhat eccentric patrons of the hotel are able to take part in all sorts of activities and wellbeing experiences and I can quite understand why most of them were reluctant to leave! As the supporting cast began to assemble at the hotel, there were a variety of different characters coming together and, although I knew romance was probably in the air, I could never really predict who was going to end up with who! My favourite “boomer” was Kate who showed me that you’re never too old to follow your dreams and I greatly admired the way Caroline James brought her to life within this setting. Kate’s love life looked like it was on the up as well when she meets fellow boomer and James Bond lookalike Andy, but things are never quite as simple as she would like and the path of true love is still as rough no matter how old you are.

Regular readers of my reviews know that I’m a big fan of fiction featuring more mature characters, showing that age is no obstacle to a happy, healthy sexual relationship so I’m thrilled that Caroline James has written this funny and insightful look at how the “baby boomers” are living their lives in the 21st century. And they are having a great deal of fun whilst doing it! This was an enjoyable and satisfying romp around the Lake District that really hit the spot for me-a romcom with a zest for life and plenty of playfulness for those who know how to teach those youngsters a thing or two!!

Ever since taking part in the cover reveal for this novel, I've been looking forward to reading The Best Boomerville Hotel. Had I realised just how lively and entertaining it was to be, I'm not sure I could have waited!

A superbly written and fantastically funny book, this has surpassed even my expectations by quite some bit! The characters are so well drawn that it's very easy to conjure up an image of each and every one, and the interweaving storylines are warm and wonderful. A mention also has to go to the perfect cover, which shows the flavour of the tale within! As with every great story, there is a villain of the piece and Caroline James has created such an amazing place with her sparkling style that I cannot help but thinking this would transfer well to the small screen, making an ideal piece of weekly viewing.

Anyone who knows me is aware of my fondness for labradors and the addition of Bunty, the chocolate lab puppy, was the icing on the cake for me. I really could not find fault with any aspect of this novel, and a little bit of me wishes I was opening at the first page again instead of closing at the last. Would I recommend this? You bet! Others have compared it favourably to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which, in my humble opinion, was a truly terrific book but Boomerville definitely leaves it in the shade!

After reading Jungle Rock I was hoping there would be more from those characters, and here we have best friends Jo and Hattie realising their vision of a hotel aimed specifically at people of a certain age. The post war ‘baby boomers’. Located in the picturesque Lake District, and offering a variety of courses and treatments, the hotel attracts its fair share of colourful and eccentric characters.

Kate Simmons is fifty and single, grieving for her late father. She has a beautiful home and is very comfortably off, having sold her successful online dating agency business. Ironically, she hasn’t found love herself and despairs of ever doing so. When Kate sees an advert in the paper for a luxury hotel break with a difference, she decides to take a chance and fills in the booking form.

A very entertaining read, with a great mix of realistic and (mostly) likeable, endearing characters, from the irrepressible Mulberry brothers, over the top but fun Hattie, to a resident mystical Shaman, and we get to know them all through the course of the story. Some, like Kate, are looking for something specific missing from their lives, others for an opportunity, while new experiences which wouldn’t normally figure in their lives is also a draw. There are plenty of diverse courses for those that want them, including pottery, creative writing, art and appointments with Shaman in his tepee.

Regardless of the returning characters, this novel can definitely be read as a standalone, as enough of Jo and Hattie’s backstory is given. Humorous writing is threaded through with poignancy and an underlying threat which gathers momentum. The characters are all well drawn with their own back stories, quirks and all, and I love the interaction between them. I enjoyed The Best Boomerville Hotel very much. If it was a real place, I’d book a couple of weeks myself!

OK, gushing review coming up – I thought this book was just fabulous, sheer enjoyment from the first page to its perfect end. There can be nothing much better than taking a diverse collection of quirky but perfectly drawn characters, placing them in a well-defined setting, throwing in a few fireworks, then sitting back and seeing what happens. I’ve been a fan of Caroline James’ writing for some time now – but in this book, it’s better than ever.

The Boomerville Hotel itself is such an original and perfect concept – catering for singles past the first flush of youth, offering a bit of luxury and a few new experiences – and if I came across a well-placed advert next to the crossword in the local paper as Kate did I think I’d be on-line making a booking too. Writing workshops, pottery and art classes, bread-making and curry, walking in the gorgeous Lakes countryside nearby, chef-inspired food, drink flowing, wood-burning stoves, great company… yes, sign me up please!

The characters in this book are just wonderful – all drawn in perfect detail, all with their own histories, those full and rich back stories that make them completely rounded (however eccentric), all interacting in a way that’s never less than totally believable. The truly eccentric few are superb, quite outrageous at times but never too over the top to be real and recognisable. When combined with Hattie’s efforts to come up with new and original ideas to entertain the guests (with a rolling pin in her cleavage to deal with unwelcome advances), they’re a wonderful source of humour than ranges from the very gentle to riotous laugh-out-loud slapstick.

It was so good to see Jo – her emotional story central to some of the author’s earlier books – comfortably happy, taking a step back to enjoy her own life. The focal point for this book – in terms of new characters – is Kate, ready to move slowly forward after nursing her father through dementia: I immediately took her to my heart, and was so pleased when she linked up with Andy, and it looked like she was going to find some unexpected happiness and hope for the future. Oh, and now I’m slipping into telling the story… and I really mustn’t do that, there are so many wonderful threads, and they’re something you really need to enjoy discovering for yourself, as I did.

There’s a perfect balancing act throughout this book – tears and sadness at times, some significant villainy, a touch of the supernatural, edge-of-seat drama and suspense, all sitting comfortably alongside Caroline James’ wonderful light touch with a story and wicked humour. There are set pieces in this story that are immensely touching – and others that make me laugh just thinking of them, and will for some time to come.

This book is just a perfect package – I absolutely loved it. And – Choc Lit and Ruby Fiction – what a superb book to have chosen to launch a new book imprint!

The Best Boomerville Hotel isn't the sort of book I'd usually choose to read. However, I like to try something different now and again and was tempted by the eye-catching front cover which suggested a delightful quirkiness. My initial impressions were correct for this is a lighthearted novel that comes packed with eccentric characters and a series of almost farcical situations. The chapters have an almost episodic feel to them and this is the sort of book I could imagine being turned into a Sunday evening television series as I'm sure family viewers would love the romance, humour and moments of drama and heartbreak.
I have to admit that there were a few scenes that perhaps felt a little dated, the residents of the hotel have clearly never heard of cultural appropriation as they dress up in Indian fancy dress for a Taste of the Raj evening. However, given that the guests of the hotel seem to be mostly from the affluent middle class I suspect it's an accurate, if slightly exaggerated for comedic effect, portrayal of middle England. I wasn't sure too how I was meant to feel about Sir Henry Mulberry and his brother, Hugo; lecherous old men or just eccentric bygones?
Despite my reservations I did enjoy The Best Boomerville Hotel, I particularly liked Hattie who is a breath of fresh air. She's a larger lady who delights in her body and exudes a fantastic - and rather naughty - joie de vivre. I also enjoyed following Kate's journey as she progresses from being a rather lonely and vulnerable soul into a fulfilled woman looking forward to her mature years.
I'm very glad I decided to read The Best Boomerville Hotel; this genre is still probably just one I'll dip into now and again but I can understand why so many people love it and if you're a reader who enjoys warmhearted, romantic novels that are imbued with a very British sense of humour them I'm sure that Caroline James' latest book will be one you'd thoroughly enjoy.

Jo and Hattie have turned a tired old hotel into a bit of a resort for baby boomers, offering all sorts of courses and special treats. Eccentric and interesting characters abound in this book, both as guests and as tutors of the courses being held.

Kate is a guest who was looking for a bit of time and opportunity to re-discover herself, after many years of taking care of her father. On her first day she meets the charming Andy but is there more to him than meets the eye?

In a lot of ways, this is a funny and charming read. Sometimes, it strayed a little bit too far into the stereotypical and cliched though, particularly with the portrayal of Hattie's character. I found her quite unlikeable at times, I have to admit.

All in all, this is a good read and someone could make a lot of money by actually having a hotel like this, I am sure!

Where do I begin?! This book is one of THE BEST books I’ve read in a very long time. I lost count how many times this book had me in stitches of laughter.

This was my first venture into a Caroline James novel and it most certainly won’t be the last. I couldn’t put the book down.

I loved getting to know all of the characters, especially Hattie – she really let of the Bridget Jones vibe. There was one character that I really couldn’t stand by the end of the book, if you’ve read the book, you probably know who I’m talking about.

I LOVED how the book ended, it was so heartwarming, despite the recent disasters.

I really need a break away at Boomerville, not that I’d meet the criteria (just yet, anyway!)

This book was a joy to read at a very unhappy time in my life, I needed cheering up after losing my much loved little dog.
The cover made me smile as it reminded me of my favourite TV programme as a child ' On The Buses' and the characters where just as much fun.
I laughed out loud, enjoyed love and mystery too. Infact this book has it all and I felt I knew each character personally and didn't want the book to end.
My book arrived a few days after Bertie died aged 16 and Caroline James helped me smile again.

The Best Boomerville Hotel is an enjoyable read that made me chuckle a couple of times while reading.

When I started reading the book I felt like I was missing out on some important details. After some quick research I found out that The Best Boomerville hotel is a continuation from an earlier series by the same author. I think you might actually enjoy this book more if you are on to all the inside jokes and the history that some of the characters have with each other. On the other hand when you get further into the book you won’t be missing out on anything.

Something that irritated my while reading was the way Caroline James described the "boomer-generation". I was quite surprised when I saw she was from that same generation. She actually made the guests sound much older than they actually were. Constantly talking about hip problems, bladder problems,... I will admit that de earliest baby boomers born right after the war might have such problems, but the younger boomers certainly have not. I missed some respect towards that age group. I also found that reality was lacking. As I have said lots of talk about hip problems, bladder problems etc.. but suddenly Kate is a sex goddess? Why wasn't that put down more realistic, everybody know that women experience some problems there as well when growing older. At least I should be pleased that Andy needed to take Viagra to keep up, else it would have been really unrealistic.

But overall I quite enjoyed the story. I loved how very British it was! Of course it was predictable, like almost all books in this genre are. But it was just so much fun! And I absolutely loved the friendship between Hattie and Jo! All the little interactions between the different characters. But sometimes it felt like it was all moving a little bit too fast. Especially in the end. It felt like the author just wanted to tie all the loose ends together and give everybody a happy ending. Not caring if it made any sense or not….

An enjoyable light little read… comparable to a good candy bar. It sweet, it’s fun, but nothing notorious about it. And sometimes that is just all you need. A little guilty pleasure.

Having never read any of Caroline James’ previous books I was intrigued when I received the recommendation from another author to be a Beta reader. I really wasn’t sure what I expected, being a lady in my early 40’s (that’s all you’re getting). I have recently been reading the new romantic comedy style “Rock Star Romances” which are about a slightly younger group of characters than I encountered in “The Boomerville Hotel”. I love a real scoundrel and a bit of mystery, so starting off I was very dubious that a book about the over 50’s wouldn’t keep my interest, totally ignoring the fact that in less than 10 years I’ll be there too.
Well, didn’t I get a surprise, who needs TV soaps with this lot. I found a story that is crammed full of very realistic and colourful characters, who we get to know individually and learn a little bit about their background. And strangely enough I think we all know someone who might represent at least one of the characters. I believe that a couple of Caroline’s previous books centre around the main characters Jo and Hattie, but this is a standalone novel that doesn’t require you to have read the previous books, (but I think I will be purchasing in the near future).
Jo (main character) has reopened her old Hotel as a “retreat” of sorts for “The Baby Boomers” as they reach that point in their lives when they feel there is nothing left for them to enjoy and experience. We meet an array of characters who are either looking for new experiences, love, a free ride or the chance to open new doors for themselves, and we meet them all and more. The story is addictive as are the characters, look out for Hattie, she gives you lots of “laugh out loud” moments, and has you dying to find out what she’ll do next. I did get my scoundrel and a bit of mystery too, and we have an unexpected hero showing their worth as well.
But all in all it was a lovely, addictive read and one I’d recommend. It will have you laughing and you will shed a wee tear in there too. I’ll definitely be reading another Caroline James soon.

The Best Boomerville Hotel has been a wonderful read, I have absolutely LOVED it!
I'm neither over 50 or single, but it sounds like an amazing place for a relaxing and revitalising holiday and I think the whole concept is a great idea. It reminded me a little bit of my 40th Birthday girlie (5 day) break at Alvaston Hall in Nantwich (Warner Hotel), last October. We did bring the average age down quite considerably, but it was brilliant. There was always something going on (we even learned how to Salsa!), the staff were great and the food was out of this world! I'd love to go again. Anyway, I'm rambling again! This is a lovely story with a fabulous bunch of characters. Kate is instantly likeable. When she decides to holiday at Boomerville, having recently lost her Dad to dementia, she is more than ready for a break, but she has no idea just how much it will change her life forever.
I have to say that I have loved almost all of the characters in this book, although one I could have happily slapped! He is still an interesting character though and I'm sure there are people like him in the real world. You'll know what I mean if you've read it. If you haven't yet then you really need to! Hattie is definitely one of my favourites. She made me laugh so much! I loved the relationship between her and Jo also. Their friendship and professional relationship go hand in hand perfectly and they make a great team. They are such real and believable characters. I love how much Jo really cares about her customers whereas Hattie is the more practical one and always thinking of the potential profit. This makes them perfect business partners.
This story has plenty of humour, fun, quirky characters, romance, friendship and its fair share of sadness. It's so brilliantly written it will be a pleasure to recommend it to all.
I will be adding Caroline James's other books to my list.

The Best Boomerville Hotel appealed to me having done a stint in my younger days living in as a waitress in a hotel in the Lake District. While this hotel doesn’t resemble any I’ve worked in or visited, it was fun seeing places I know and love featured. Seriously, there needs to be more books set in Cumbria!

The cover gives the style away really – this is a bit of good old British fun which Caroline James captures in full spirit. Packed with eccentric, larger than life characters and lashings of witty humour , there’s something cosy and uplifting about Carolines writing which made me smile.

I’m going to be honest, I’m a bit more down to earth and gritty usually in my tastes and when I first started this book found myself rolling my eyes a little at what I thought were stereo-typically spoilt baby boomers and the “I say old chap” language, however the author creates such endearing characters it was hard not to be won around. After all, the guests at Boomerville want pretty much what we all want – companionship and a sense of purpose and belonging.

The Best Boomerville Hotel is a complete contrast to the fast paced thrillers and emotionally taught books I usually read. It was more of a leisurely, gentle amble than a rollercoaster, but I enjoyed some touching moments along with the laugh out loud ones. If you want pure feelgood escapism in your reading, then this is a good bet for you – with an endearingly eccentric cast and a good dose of British Humour, you won’t go wrong.

I loved catching up with Jo and Hattie it really felt like I was meeting up with old friends. There is also a wonderful range of quirky and interesting characters that are staying at the hotel and they were just brilliant to get to know. I have to give a special mention to Hattie as she is wonderfully over the top but with a heart of gold!

The story moved at a lovely pace and I think the premise for The Boomerville Hotel is fabulous after all it's never too late to reach for your dreams and find some happiness. There are a few surprises along the way that made for some entertaining moments. Along with some light hearted parts that left me smiling away. You will also find some deeper moments as the book shows the worries and loneliness that people can experience. Caroline James struck the right balance with her writing giving the reader some really fun escapades along with a lovely bit of emotion all coming together to provide an uplifting story with a dash of romance.

With loveable, quirky characters and plenty of action along the way, THE BEST BOOMERVILLE HOTEL by Caroline James is a book that will warm your heart and make you smile.

Boomerville is a stunning hotel that specialises in providing everything a person of a certain age could require - from writing classes to life coaching and everything in between, this hotel does it. From a handsome widower to an eccentric writer, to a woman searching to find herself and possibly romance along the way, Boomerville Hotel welcomes them all with open arms, and as this large and luminous group come together it is no surprise when sparks begin to fly!

From the beginning, I was pulled into this story and I connected with the characters almost instantly and really wanted to see how life would turn out for each and every one of them.
There are moments of pure laughter and some more sombre moments too, and the author has such a wonderful way with descriptions that the hotel and its guests really come alive in your mind as we get to know each and every story.

THE BEST BOOMERVILLE HOTEL by Caroline James has something for everyone and is the perfect read to warm your heart as the cold evenings draw in. Definitely a must for contemporary fiction fans everywhere.

I think I may have been a little late checking in Boomerville Hotel - I struggled to 'find my way around' and couldn't seem to pinpoint the 'oomph' of the storyline until later on in the book.

That said, once I had gotten myself settled into my room and made myself familiar with all of the other residents in the hotel, the last half of the book and I became good friends. In fact, I ended up laughing out loud several times - Lucinda is a cracking character!

I did feel sorry for Kate and the situation she unfortunately found herself in, but I have to say that I did see it coming. However, it didn't make Andy come across any less of the end of a bell. Seriously, what a boomerbleep!

'The Best Boomerville Hotel' has such a collection of colourful, memorable, and outright hilarious characters who were able to take this story on a ride of a lifetime. I am genuinely surprised that the author put such a mismatched group of people together, but it worked incredibly well and kept me thoroughly entertained.

Despite having reservations at the beginning (see what I did there?), I am pleased that I was able to have a little bit of fun in Boomerville Hotel! As soon as there is another room vacant, I'll be back, that's for sure!

The holiday you have been waiting for!
This was a lighthearted romp through a week or two at the newly opened Boomerville Hotel; not surprisingly, intended to cater for the ageing baby boomer population. As a baby boomer myself, I have to confess that the concept of the hotel, with classes and activities, quite appealed to me.

It took me a a while to get into this because it is a bit of a cast of thousands, but there are some wacky characters, some of whom are quite endearing. The hotel is run by Jo and Hattie, who made an interesting pair, especially Hattie, who will get up to all sorts in order to keep the residents happy. The Boomers are all looking for love and entertainment, and there's plenty of both to be had.

I wasn't a fan of the narrator in the audio version, her voices for the older characters were a bit painful and she hesitated in her narration from time to time, but I loved being able to listen as I went about the housework and that made up for any irritations.

I can imagine this being a popular beach read, with its fun cover and hotel setting. I could also imagine further episodes, with some new and some existing characters....a TV series even.

The Boomerville Hotel is a new venture in the Lake District – owned by Jo, aided and abetted by her friend Hattie. Their target guest list is the baby boomer generation and they offer different ‘classes’ for the guests to participate in if they wish – pottery, art, healing with the Shaman, writing classes etc. The guest list for their opening week is eclectic – Sir Henry (a relic of the past from when the hotel was open to anyone), Lucinda, an artist with strange tendencies, Kate, single and newly free to enjoy her life after caring for her elderly father till he died, Andy, a single widower who earns the nickname ‘James Bond’ for his looks, and so on. But all is not quite as it seems ….

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it for a good read – I got involved with the characters to the extent that I was talking aloud to Kate (well, muttering instructions!) It did end satisfactorily (through a few hiccups and meanders). Mainly however, I want to go and stay at Boomerville myself! I look forward to the next offering from Ms James.

This is a new author to me and wow what an introduction. I laughed so much I cried in this book; it was fabulous and I couldn't put it down. The writing is well executed, hilarious, sweet, dramatic and honestly a great read.

The clientele are eclectic and made for some seriously funny moments in this book.Jo Docherty and Hattie Contaldo have decided to create a holiday retreat with a difference, targeting a specific type of client.It kind of reminded me of the cast of characters found in an Agatha Christie book, diverse and entertaining.

I love the sound of The Boomerville Hotel, set in the Lake District and would love to visit the area. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and one that I recommend.

This book gives you hope that even if you are slightly older, you never know when love will find you. A book full of diverse stories that will take you on an entertaining journey.

Caroline James is a new author to me and I have to ask myself why.. this book was so funny , I laughed til I cried and I loved the shenanigans at The Best Boomerville Hotel, this book is a laugh out loud, fun, passionate story full of quirky eccentric characters and the author really had me feeling like I was on holiday visiting the country I grew up in.
Jo and Hattie open a hotel in the Lake District for the over 50’s and this book follows their story as they invite the Baby Boomers to come and stay at The Boomerville Hotel. Guests can sign up for various classes and activities amongst them cooking classes, spiritual readings and life classes with a Shaman and as you can imagine offering such diverse opportunities brings a wide range of characters and this in itself is fun to read about. The characters in this book are a eclectic mix but that’s what made this book interesting and funny. Looking forward to more from this author.
