Visitation Tuesday, 6- 8pm, Baker Funeral Home. James Banks McFadden CLEMSON Mr. McFadden, 88, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at the home of one of his daughters, Lil Arrants, in Ormond Beach, FL. He was born in Fort Lawn, SC, on February 7, 1917, the son of the late James Bissel and Azubah Agnew McFadden. After graduating from Great Falls High School in 1936, Banks attended Clemson University, where he earned All-American honors in football and basketball.

Following graduation from Clemson, he was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers and played one year of professional football. He then served three years in the European theater with the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war, Banks married the "love of his life," Agnes "Aggie" Rigby of Manning, SC, and returned to his beloved Clemson, where they made their home and he began his coaching career, which spanned 26 years. The final 15 years of his service to Clemson were spent as Director of the Intramural Department. For many years, he was an active member of the Clemson community and the Clemson United Methodist Church.

Banks predeceased by his wife, Aggie; three sisters, Elizabeth McFadden Settle, Gill McFadden Reese, and Doris McFadden Sim; half-brother, Tom Wallace; and half-sister, Isabel Wallace. He is survived by four devoted daughters, Patsy Harlow and her husband, Dave, of Durham, NC, Lil Arrants and her husband, Jack, of Ormond Beach, FL, Marcia Barrett and her husband, Bob, of Florence, SC, and Jan Parmley and her husband, Rick, of Lake Wylie, SC; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Although Banks will be remembered by many for his outstanding athletic abilities and accomplishments, his family and friends will best remember him as a humble man with a wonderful sense of humor and a kind generous heart who loved life and his fellow man. Graveside services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on Cemetery Hill followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.

Taylor, 41 died June 3, 2005 in Huntersville, NC. He was born July in Wilmington, NC, a son of the late and 'Carleton highway trolman, John "J.C." Taylor, Sr. Mr. Taylor was the VP Ho Operations for M. Taylor Company.

He was instrumental in developing and operating the awardwinning Hampton Inn Suites, located in Mooresville, NC (Race City, USA). Mr. Batchelor was born in Clarkton, NC, the third son of Nicolas and Emma Batchelor. He grew up in Mt. Holly, Gaston County, NC, graduating from high school there in 1939. He was a veteran of the U.S.

Army during World War II, having served in United States, North Africa and Italy. He served an additional three years in the U.S. Army after the war in the United States and Italy. Following military service, he enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating there in 1951. Following graduation, Mr.

Batchelor was employed with the U.S. Civil Service Commission for 6 years in Columbia, SC and Washington, DC. He then returned to his native North Carolina, where he was employed the State Department of Transportation, Right of Way Branch, until his retirement in October, 1981. Mr. Batchelor was preceded in death by his son, Robert Batchelor.

Surviving are his wife, Franca Batchelor; daughter, Emma "Tina" Williams and her husband, Chris; and grandson, Justin Williams. Born in Abbeville, SC, Mrs. Smoak was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Swetenburg and Minnie Ella Stuck, she was married to the late Richard Parker Smoak and was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian. Church. Mrs. Smoak was a graduate of Winthrop College and was a retired educator with Rock Hill School district.

Born in Monroe, NC, he lived his life in Belton and Spartanburg, SC. He was a humble and hardworking man of Nestle Foods until his recent disability. He attended First AME Church of Spartanburg. He leaves to mourn by his earthly death, his wife of 24 years, Sandra A. McLarty and his three loving children, Jennifer, Kenna and Brandon, all of Spartanburg, SC.

His siblings include Derek of Seneca, SC, Todd and Marc, as well as sisters, Lisa Evans, Karen Stone, Erica and Sherrie McLarty of Charlotte, NC. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Big Brother and Daddy!
