Luna point of view:
We went inside and ate with everyone.
I was sitting across from Matt and we kept locking eyes and I just couldn’t stop smiling. I couldn’t believe Sabrina had been right. He was in love with me.
And he had just kissed me, and oh god my head was spinning.
“You okay?” Nick asked “Hm? Yeah i’m fine”
This time there wasn’t a balcony, so Madi and I were just backstage.
They were getting ready and checking their mics.
Then it was time and Nick ran out first, making them all scream.
I went up to Matt softly, cupping his face, and this time it felt so much more intimate. I wanted to say so many things. And I could tell he did too. He was about to open his mouth, but looked around and we obviously weren’t alone:
“I know” I smiled “Go have fun” I let go of his cheeks and he smiled so big, before running out.
They did so well, but were exhausted afterwards.
We were just on the bus and Matt and I were trying to keep our distance, to avoid suspicion.
I was just scrolling on tiktok and my heart stopped.
Someone had taken pictures and filmed, as the boys were going on stage. And there was a tiny gap in the wall. They had zoomed in and gotten a picture of Matt smiling, as my hands were on his cheeks.
I saw a video as well, as I was rubbing his cheek and the way he was looking at me. All the comments were going crazy and people were freaking out.
“Who’s hands are those?”
“Aw Matty is in love?”
“Who tf is holding him like that? And why does our boy have literal heart eyes??”
I couldn’t read more, so I just handed the phone to Madi. She just sighed and handed it to Nick.
“f*ck that. Let them speculate. It’s not like you guys are like that, so it doesn’t matter if they find out it’s you” Nick said “Right yeah, it doesn’t matter”
I looked slightly panicked over at Matt, who was already smiling.
It didn’t take them long to figure it out. Someone noticed my nails from a snapchat with Madi and they confirmed it. But again ,they had nothing else. They knew we were best friends, so why couldn’t I hold his face?
The bus dropped Malcolm, Madi and Laura at the airport and us at the boy’s house in Sommerville.
I lived just a little down the street. “No you have to come inside, I'm sure Marylou will be thrilled to see you” Nick said and dragged me with them inside.
Marylous hugged them all and was so excited “Oh and you brought Luna!” She came and hugged me as well.
Nick was just briefly, telling her about the show. And god it felt so good to be home.
I felt Matt lean his head on me, so I reached down, looking for his hand.
I interviewed our fingers and just held onto his hand.
Then Marylou turned back, to all of us “So how long do we get you for?” She asked, “We’re flying back Monday.” Chris said “Oh! Two whole days” she smiled.
“Luna dear, have you spoken to your parents? I know they are out of town” she asked “Yeah unfortunately they won’t make it back before we leave, but that’s okay” i smiled.
“Well I am certainly not letting you go home alone to an empty house. You guys can have one of those sleepovers, you used to when you were younger” she said excited “Mom we’re not 12” Nick laughed “I know, you are of course welcome to sleep wherever you want. Just a suggestion” she chuckled.
We got our things and were about to go upstairs.
“Luna sweetheart can I borrow you?” She asked “Of course” I stayed behind in the kitchen “Don’t grill her too hard” Jimmy said, before going downstairs “Don’t worry” she smiled.
“I just wanted to ask how things were going in LA” she smiled “Of course Nick fills me in, but i was more specifically thinking about you and Matt” she asked. At first I was confused. But she’s his mom, Of course she knew.
“Well…after we were here the last time. Chris and I actually started dating…I’m not sure how much he told you..” I said and she smiled sadly.
“He told me. Oh boy was he excited, but he just sort of stopped mentioning it. So I figured you guys broke up” she said “Yeah we did…nothing happened. We just- it just didn’t work out I guess” i said.
“No worries, that’s how life works” she smiled.
“It’s been tough, getting through that. But then there’s Matt..” I said smiling, “It’s no secret that I’ve always wanted you to end up with one of my boys. And don’t tell him i said this, but Matt has always been fond of you, ever since you met actually. Poor thing was smitten ever since” she giggled.
“Oh I'm sure it’s just because we were such good friends” I said “No honey, he loves you. Always has. Even when you tried with Chris. I could tell he was hurting. But he cared too much to tell you at the time” she said and I felt my heart race.
“You really think so..?” I asked “Oh I know so, and if I’m not mistaken, then you love him as well..?” She smiled “Yeah I do..”
“I just didn’t wanna admit it, ‘cause I didn’t wanna hurt Chris..” I said.
“I understand that. But you can’t help who you love. I know Chris loves and cares about you enough to understand that he won’t lose you because of it” she said “I hope so..” i smiled.
I went to go upstairs “Turn the heater on in Matt's room will you? It’s been off for months” she smiled “Yeah i will”
The fact that she just knew I was gonna end up there, was so cute.
I walked up and they were all in Chris’ room, looking so tired “I'm guessing you’re gonna sleep in Matt's room?” Nick asked. And I looked at Matt, who just smiled “If you want to of course”
“Yeah i want to” i chuckled “Alright goodnight then” Nick went downstairs and Matt and I went to his room.
We closed the door and just looked up at each other, smiling like children.
He was hesitant, but reached up and kissed me softly.
I kissed him back, smiling “Do you think Nick knows?” I asked, pulling back and going over to his bed “Probably, he always knows somehow” he chuckled.
I took off my shoes and got in the bed and he laid down as well “Well so does your mom..” I said and he turned to me “What?”
“When you said that you love me, that you're in love with me…how long have you felt that way..?” I asked. His face kinda fell and he took a deep breath.
“You sure you wanna know?” He asked “Of course I wanna know Matt..”
“To be honest, since we became friends in senior year. Obviously I wasn’t aware at the time…but it wasn’t until the new years after graduating. Where we almost…” he looked up at me.
“You were about to kiss me, but Alahna was crying over Zack, so I had to be her midnight kiss. I remember, I don’t think I could forget that” i smiled softly.
“That’s the first time I knew, that i was like f*cked..” he chuckled “So you didn’t stop..?” I asked.
“I tried to…I really did. Especially when you were falling in love with Chris” he said, covering his eyes and sighed “But yeah…and of course my mom knew” he chuckled “Matt…” i said “It’s pathetic i know”
“No” I turned his chin, holding his face “It’s probably the best thing I’ve ever heard..” I smiled.
“Because I love you too, I am in love with you actually…” I confessed, making him soften “And you’re still sure..?” He asked.
“Oh i'm sure” I bent down, kissing him deeply.
We got under the covers and i laid my head on his chest and he pulled me so close “If Nick knows-“ I started “I still think we should try to keep it just for you and me, as long as possible..” he kissed the top of my head “Okay…should be fun” i smiled and buried my face in his neck.
I planted a soft kiss against his skin and felt him get goosebumps.
I woke up and it was light outside, but my head was on a pillow.
I looked up and saw the empty spot beside me.
How early was it? Had he left?
As I was confused, looking around I heard the door click open.
“Where’d you go..?” I asked softly, making him smile “Just the bathroom” he said and walked back towards the bed.
I just reached up for him. He smiled and crawled back into bed and into my arms.
Now his head was on my chest and I just held him tightly.
“What time is it?” I asked, softly playing with his hair “10 something” he mumbled “Ugh i was hoping we could sleep a little more” I complained “We have like 20 minutes until the alarm goes off” he said “Right”
“Can I ask you something? Now that there’s no more secrets between us and stuff” he said “Of course, ask away”
“That night when you missed my call? You were out with Tana I think. What happened?” He asked and my stomach turned.
Would it change anything if I told him?
“It’s so stupid Matt..” I sighed “If it made you upset, then it’s not stupid”
“Well..yeah i was out with Tana. And I guess I was kinda having a crisis, about everything with Chris and then being confused about our situation. And then I saw Vinnie..” i said and I felt him tense slightly.
“Yeah?” He said “And I was drunk you know? I thought it would fix everything. So I let him flirt with me and almost kissed me..” I confessed
“Oh..”
“But we didn’t. I ended up crying and apologising for leading him on. But he was so sweet about it. He kinda knew it already..” I sighed “Knew what?”
“That i was in love with you…” he looked up at me slightly “So that’s why you didn’t kiss him?” He asked “Yeah, I didn’t wanna f*ck up anything, in case you felt the same” I reached down and cupped his cheek “And i do..” he smiled
“Yea. So i called Nick crying and god i felt like my life was over and i was so sure that he was angry with me, for falling in love with you” i chuckled.
“Of course he wasn’t” Matt smiled “No he wasn’t…but yeah, that was a sh*tty night” i smiled “I’m sorry..” he laid his head back on my chest.
The alarm went off and we heard everyone else starting to get up.
Matt sat up but then looked down at me. It was funny I could always tell he was thinking something through, before doing it.
He leaned down and softly kissed me. I smiled, kissing him back, pulling him down slightly, my hand moving into his hair.
“We have to get up..” he chuckled, pulling back slightly “Just- one - more” i said between kisses, making him chuckle.
“We have a lot of time to make up for, you know?” I smiled sitting up as well “Yeah we really do..” he smiled.
He kissed me once more, before we left his room and then we had to stay apart.
We had breakfast with their parents and it was so fun. I really loved their family as well.
Then Nate came over. I felt like I hadn’t seen him in so long.
I ran up and hugged him, making him laugh.
And he hugged me back, just as tight.
As we were all just talking, I swear I saw Matt glaring annoyed at him. Which made absolutely no sense, because Nate was his best friend in the world, besides me of course.
